Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine, Berlin, Germany
Since its foundation in 1948, the Free University of Berlin (FUB) (www.fu-berlin.de) has developed into one of the largest universities in Germany. It offers more than 90 programs of study, i.e. the entire spectrum associated with a traditional university. It cooperates closely with other Berlin universities and with extramural institutions in the region. Due to its founding history as an inter-national university, it has a unique international network of more than 100 partners worldwide.
The Institute for Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine of the faculty of veterinary medicine of the FUB has ample experience in more than 40 years of research and training in tropical veterinary medicine.
Research and Development activities are focusing on the control of emerging and re-emerging diseases, including vector-borne and zoonotic diseases including trypanosomosis. Emphasis is put on integrating best-bet disease management practices including vector control towards the improvement of livestock and, thus, increasing income and human welfare.
